What does "family" mean to you?
FamilyMatters supports relationships so we are happy for you to bring anyone along who is important to you, either friend or family. Families are small and unique communities. Like all communities they sometimes get into difficulties through their differences with one another, or feel the strain when members experience troubles.
Research shows that family therapy is useful for children, young people and adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties and these can include:
• Family communication problems
• Child and adolescent behaviour problems
• Mental health problems
• Couple relationship difficulties
• Illness and disability in the family
• Fostering and adoption issues
• Separation, divorce and step-family life
• The effects of trauma, substance misuse and domestic violence
FamilyMatters helps families to find solutions before their relationships become overstrained and break down.
Family
Therapists believe that the best solutions come from the family
members themselves so work in a non-expert and respectful manner.
Research shows successful outcomes from this way of working.
On receiving a new referral we will give you a call to discuss a convenient time for you to come and meet us.
Appointments last one hour and the first session gives you a chance to decide whether you want to go any further. Children may like to bring a special toy with them.
We encourage you to bring anyone with you who you think might help - friends, a teacher or family. Sometimes parents come alone for the first meeting to talk through adult issues. Our qualified therapists work in pairs and on average families attend six appointments but this does vary.
