A mixed-methods approach was used to investigate the impact of triangulation on children. Interviews were conducted based on Resnick’s (1993) Separation Anxiety Test, with added Triadic pictures, on which a theme analysis was conducted. Responses were scored on a revised scoring table to provide a quantitative component. Relationships were found between Reflective Functioning and Dismissing, Resisting, Self-Blame and other dimensions.

It was also found that the Triadic conflict pictures induced a greater response than the SAT pictures. Gender effects were also found to have a significant impact. The results of both the quantitative and qualitative components were related back to the children’s clinical background.
